IP44 in the bathroom and kitchen — without ugly surface boxes

Splash protection in a living space doesn't mean a grey box on the wall. How to keep the same range and colour throughout.

IP44 in the bathroom and kitchen — without ugly surface boxes

A common question: 'I need splash protection in the bathroom — should I use surface-mount WG 800?' For living wet areas, no. Surface ranges are for garages, cellars and outdoors.

A solution in the same range

Take a flush socket of your range (LS 990, A 550, CD 500…) with a hinged lid (suffix KL) or protective shutters (KI). Add the 551 WU sealing membrane under the frame — that is what ensures IP44 for devices, covers and frames carrying the blue 'IP44' marking.

What you get

The range and colour stay the same — the switch by the bath looks like the one in the room. No grey boxes on show.

When surface-mount is right

WG 800 means IP44 splash-proof monoblocks for technical zones: cellar, garage, attic, façade.
